10 Essential Guitar Gifts

Looking for the perfect gift for the guitar lover in your life?

The 10 suggestions below are all products that I own, use, and love.  I’ve played guitar for over 30 years and have used countless accessories. This is a list of the accessories I currently use, that will make great gifts for the guitar lover in your life.   -Guitar George

  • TC Electronic Clip-on Guitar Tuner

    • I have used countless tuners including many clip-on tuners and this is hands down my favorite.  The display is large and clear with a red line that turns green when it is in the center of the display and the string is in tune. It displays the note (E, Eb, D) on the left side of the display and automatically changes as you move from one note to another.  I clip it to the headstock of my Martin OM21 and it accurately displays the tuning of the string even when I barely pluck the string.  This also has a Polyphonic feature that allows you to tune all the strings simultaneously.  This can help to quickly identify which string is out of tune.  I rarely use the polyphonic feature.  I love the tuner and I’m sure the guitar lover in your life will too.

  • D’Addario Tri-Action Capo

    • I have used every conceivable capo and have about 10 in my collection now.  This is my favorite that lives with my acoustic guitar.  The adjustable tension feature is ideal to get just the right amount of pressure to have clarity from all the strings and not cause the guitar to go out of tune when the capo is added. This capo has a convenient handle that makes it easy to put in on the guitar quickly and accurately, move it up and down the neck and take it off the guitar. I keep it on the headstock of the guitar when I am not using it and can always access it with ease.

  • Black Mountain Thumb Picks

    • I received a set of these for Christmas from my daughter last year.  I had seen the demos and thought they looked cool.  The spring gives the pick a softer touch than the standard thumb picks that I have used in the past.  It is easy to grab the pick with your fingers and use it like a standard pick which adds versatility to your playing.  This is a great gift for guitarists that currently use a thumb pick and for those who don’t.  It will open a new stream of creativity and fun for all levels of guitarists.

  • String Swing Guitar Wall Hanger

    • I have several of these and use them to hang guitars on the wall in my office.  They are easy to hang, just find the stud, or use toggle bolts, and 2 screws is all it takes. This works great for electric and acoustic guitars.  I use it to display some of my guitars and they can easily be taken down and played.  These are strong and can hold a significant guitar.  I have my stainless-steel dobro hanging from one of these and it is solid.

Stand copy.jpg

  • Fender Guitar Stand

    • This is a sturdy, versatile and portable guitar stand. Made by Fender, the legendary guitar brand, this is a perfect gift for anyone who has a guitar.  The height is adjustable making this work well for pretty much any guitar, acoustic, electric, if it has a headstock and is shaped like a guitar, this will hold it. The guitar easily goes into the stand and easily comes out when you lift it up.  It folds up to a reasonable size for transporting.  This is truly a great gift for the guitar lover.

String Winder copy.jpg

  • D’Addario String Winder

    • This is a great tool to help change the strings on the guitar.  I keep one in each of my cases and one in my music room.  The unique feature to this string winder is the built-in string cutter.  You can quickly remove the old strings and put on the new ones with the winding tool, remove the pegs with the bridge pin puller and cut off the excess string with the cutter.  This is a must have for the guitarist in your life and a gift that will keep on giving every time they change the strings on their guitar.

  • Elixir Strings 80/20 Bronze w/ Nanoweb Coating

    • This are my favorite guitar strings and I have tried them all.  These strings have a crisp, bright, clear tone that lasts for months.  I have an acidic condition in the sweat from my hands that degrades guitar strings with a vengeance.  The Elixir strings have a thin coating that keep them safe from the air and the stuff on your fingers.  They last longer and retain their excellent sound quality. These could be a game changer for the guitarist in your life.

  • Prime Tone Guitar Pick Dunlop

    • This pick is designed for outstanding tone.  They deliver a warm, clear sound when strumming or playing lead lines.  The design is a bit wider than the average pick and there is a raised pattern on the pick that make it extremely comfortable to hold and more difficult to drop.  The guitar lover in your life will be thrilled to try this outstanding pick.

  • Dunlop 276 Blues Bottle Slide

    • This slide is the classic corisedin bottle design, like Duane used. It works great for both acoustic and electric guitar and I also use it with my Dobro.  I have used all different types of slides and I find this to be the most versatile.  It delivers a clear tone with great sustain.  This is a great slide for the guitarist who is just learning or experimenting with slide all the way up to the advanced slide guitarist.

  • Scarlet 2i2 USB Audio Interface

    • I have had this USB interface for about a year now and it is outstanding.  This device makes it possible to connect your guitar to a computer to record.  It also works with a microphone.  It has 2 combo input jacks capable of plugging in XLR (generally microphone) or ¼ inch (guitar, or instrument) and a switch on each input to compensate.  It has Phantom Power which is needed for some microphones.  With the two inputs, you can record 2 inputs simultaneously, like a guitar and a vocal, or 2 different microphones on a guitar, or a direct input and a microphone.  There are a lot of options.  It also has a headphone jack with a separate volume control.  This model comes with free software and works with any software that you may already be using.  This is also great for podcasting or recording voice over work. This is a great gift for someone who wants to record using computer software.

  • Boss RC-3 Loop Station

    • This loop pedal is great for practicing and performing.  I use it to practice soloing by recording a backing track or two and playing over it.  It can also be used in live performance and works especially well for solo performers.  It has 2 inputs and 2 outputs making it quite versatile. I have the RC-1 version and the newer RC-3 has added features including 3 hours of recording time and 99 memory slots.  This will be hours, or months of fun for the guitarist in your life.
